这句话最早是由一个法国人提出的，这个法国人名叫 Jean Anthelme Brillat-S***arin, 出生于法国贝莱，是一位律师、政治家和美食家，他创作了被后世称为“饮食圣经”的 Physiologie du go鹴 (The Physiology of Taste)，这本书于1825年出版，畅销两百多年，影响深远。

作者在书里说到：Tell me what you eat: I will tell you what you are. 告诉我你吃什么，我就知道你是什么样的人。他开创性地提出一个人的心理、情绪和身体健康被这个人所吃的食物决定；他认为好的食物可以塑造好的身体和性格，坏的食物则摧毁人的身体和内心。
